Metra invited transit, law enforcement, social service providers, and educators to a collaborative education conference in April to discuss strategies for identifying and preventing human trafficking, as well as ways to support victims and survivors.
The free conference was held on Tuesday, April 8, to raise awareness and foster community engagement in the fight against human trafficking. As part of the conference, human trafficking survivors described their experiences.
“Metra is committed to promoting safety and awareness on our trains and in our communities,” said Metra CEO/Executive Director Jim Derwinski. “By hosting this conference, we hope to provide attendees with the knowledge and resources needed to recognize the signs of human trafficking and take action.”
Human trafficking affects individuals and communities across the nation. As a vital part of Chicago’s transportation system, Metra recognizes its role in helping combat this crime. Topics that were discussed included:
