The West Hinsdale Station on the BNSF Line will close temporarily from July 8 to July 18 while BNSF Railway replaces the grade crossing at the Stough Street, which bisects the station’s platforms. No trains will stop at the station during the work.

The station is being closed because Stough Street is the only pedestrian and vehicle crossing near the station and there will be no other convenient way for riders to cross from one side of the tracks to the other during the work. Customers can use the Hinsdale or Clarendon Hills stations as alternatives.

The detour for southbound vehicle traffic on Stough will be east on Chestnut Street, south on Monroe Street and west on Hinsdale Avenue to Stough. Northbound traffic will follow that route in reverse. Detour signs will be posted.

Residents of the surrounding area are advised that there will be increased train whistles and construction noise during the work. On the weekend of July 10-11, Burlington Avenue between Rose Place and Stough and Stough between Burlington and Town Place will be closed for heavy equipment moves.

Crossing projects generally include the removal and replacement of rails, ties, ballast, rubber panels and asphalt at the crossing and are part of the regularly scheduled maintenance of railroad assets. Crossing renewals provide a smoother ride for motorists and ensure the continued safety of railroad operations.
