Explore Chicago by Bike and Metra

For avid bike riders and families looking to explore Chicagoland on two wheels, look no further than Metra. Metra is now offering specialized bike cars on multiple lines, providing riders with more options to enjoy the outdoors and explore our region’s many attractions.

Bike cars are available on both weekend and weekday trains. Riders can identify the bike cars with their blue and white color scheme, as well as a white bicycle decal located next to the exterior doors.

Metra customers can use the bike cars to their advantage, whether they’re commuting to the city and riding along the lakefront trail or exploring a suburban trail by taking the MD-N line to the North Branch Trail System that even leads into the Chicago Botanic Gardens. Other trail ideas with corresponding lines and arrival stations include:
• Salt Creek Trail: BNSF to Riverside
• Major Taylor Trail: Rock Island to Beverly Hills
• The 606 along Bloomingdale Trail: MD-N to Healy

Additionally, Metra customers who are headed downtown to their offices and would like to bike the last mile will enjoy this easy, safe and greener way of getting to their workplace.

Please note that the bike car spots are available on a first-come, first-served basis. To learn more, visit this page.
