The Metra Board of Directors today approved an intergovernmental agreement with the village of Lake Bluff to fund a $300,000 renovation of the community’s train station.
The Lake Bluff Station was built in 1904 and has not had any significant rehabilitation since 1988. Under the agreement, Metra will fund the replacement of the two-story station’s wood shake shingle roof as well as tuck-pointing and masonry repairs of the brick exterior. Repairs also will include ADA improvements to the public restroom and replacement of existing lights with energy efficient LED fixtures.
“Today’s action by the Board will allow us to partner with the village to complete the first major rehab of this station in nearly 30 years,” said Metra Executive Director/CEO Don Orseno. “These much needed improvements will ensure the station remains a welcoming gateway to Lake Bluff.”
The village will oversee the project at the station, which serves more than 600 passengers each weekday.
Board members today also approved an intergovernmental agreement to contribute up to $250,000 to a $3 million project to replace the commuter platform at the Western Springs Station. The village of Western Springs secured a federal grant to fund the bulk of the project, which also includes significant safety improvements to the Hillgrove Avenue intersection.
