BNSF Railway will begin work Friday, May 19 to replace the railroad crossing at Cass Avenue in Westmont. The work will close the road at the crossing to all traffic until Saturday, May 27.
The crossing will be closed to traffic beginning the morning of Friday, May 19 and is scheduled to reopen on Saturday afternoon, May 27. Signage for detour routes will be posted. The nearest road crossings available to motorists are Prospect Avenue to the east and Fairview Avenue to the west.
Pedestrians will not be able to access the east end of the platforms at the Westmont Station during the project. The pedestrian crossing at the middle of the station will be the only way to cross the tracks.
Crossing projects are part of the regularly scheduled maintenance of a railroad’s assets and generally include the removal and replacement of rails, ties, ballast, rubber panels and asphalt. Crossing renewals provide a smoother ride for motorists and ensure the continued safety of railroad operations.
