Joliet Gateway Center opens

Joliet Mayor Robert O’Dekirk, center left, cuts the ribbon to officially open the Joliet Gateway Center while  Illinois Gov. Bruce Rauner, center right, and retired Metra CEO/Executive Director Don Orseno help hold it taught. The Joliet Gateway Center Train Station is a 10,000 square foot state-of-the-art facility that serves as a key part of the revitalization of downtown Joliet.
The two-story station includes Metra and Amtrak offices, indoor waiting areas on both floors, and elevator and stair access to the new Metra platforms for Rock Island and Heritage Corridor trains. The station is part of a larger Gateway Center project that included realignment of railroad tracks to eliminate a bottleneck for freight traffic and increased passenger safety.
